Historial

Ceira, given in September 1180 by D. Afonso Henriques, to the Chancellor  Julião, was in 1512 with charter granted by King Manuel I that gave it the name of Vila Nova de Ceira.
A local tradition says that before the silting of the river, the town was an important river port.

Ceira is indeed a very ancient town, already known to the Romans who, according to some historians, it called Célia or Celium but it seems it was Célia.
The village is also registered with the spelling Seyra.

Ceira  is a village in the municipality of Coimbra, has an area of about 14 km and the distance to the center of  the county is 6 km. The village is irrigated by the river Mondego to the north, the south by the river Ceira and the left stream, the river or Dueça Corvo.

The inhabitants of the community are chiefly employed, most working in the city in different professions, the other part is devoted to agriculture and the nursery of trees, well known and appreciated throughout the country and abroad.
The idea of creating the group, was born from the enthusiasm of the parade held in Coimbra in 1960 during the celebrations of the city, attended by people representing Casa do Povo de  Ceira.

It was the image of people's everyday lives from Ceira that were either carried in by river boat tractor following the MONDEGO until COIMBRA. “True representative of the community of Ceira and the region of Coimbra, was founded in May 1962, the FOLKLORE GROUP OF CASA DO POVO DE CEIRA, adopting the dress costumes that replicate this rural community of the late nineteenth century, extended to the principles of the twentieth century, fruit of research and collections, comprehensive work of its components, of which never abdicate and have the function to keep alive traditions, habits and customs of their land.
